Therapeutical Biography

EnglishFrenchGermanItalianPortugueseRussianSpanish

This biographic writing course helps you to analyse yourself and to come to grips with the more difficult and depressing facts of your autobiography. It will help you to master the crises and to heal the wounds in your life.

Biographic writing has a therapeutic effect, but it does not replace psychotherapy. It should help you to come to a better understanding of yourself and your life. You may even get a glimpse of the subconscious workings of your mind.

The well-known analyst Gertrude R. Ticho defines self-analysis as an ‘introspection, self-examination and free access to our own unconsciousness.’  In the wake of Freud, Viktor von Weizsäcker wrote: ‘The essence of illness is biographic; that is why the insight into the illness can only be biographic.’ Günter Clauser wrote a textbook of the biographic analysis (1963) to get to the core of disease. If you suffer from an illness, a biographic analysis might help you.

In his highly recommendable book, ‘Self-Analysis – The curative biography, its writing and its effect’ (2nd edition, 1976), Dr. Klaus Thomas writes: “As part of the depth psychology, self-analysis belongs to a healthy sphere of: detailed meditation, recollection, reviewing of your life, conclusions, decisions and resolutions, with insights, clarifications and plans. On the other hand, self-analysis by its nature, also touches on psychotherapy, in the wide range of the forgotten, submerged and sometimes suppressed experiences from long ago with their mental insults and injuries. It uncovers the buried origins of tormenting tensions, neurotic inhibitions, concealed fears, menacing aggressions, troubling malcontent, incomprehensible outbreaks of offensiveness and often contributes remarkably, or even decisively, to the preservation or the restoration of mental health and working ability.”
